Newsletter: Book on Gandhi's Leadership in Russian



A book on Mahatma Gandhi's leadership qualities, penned by veteran Indian diplomat Pascal Alan Nazareth has been released in Russian, making it the sixth foreign language edition of the book.

The Russian edition of "Gandhi's Outstanding Leadership" was released on 11th September, 2014 by the Indian ambassador P S Raghavan and Director of the Institute of Philosophy of the Russian Academy of Sciences at the Institute.

Mahatma Gandhi's thoughts make debut in Mao's China

The first Chinese version of a book on Mahatma Gandhi's thoughts was launched in Beijing on Monday, marking the debut of Gandhian philosophy in a country intensely dominated by the ideology of 'Chairman' Mao Zedong.

'Gandhi's Outstanding Leadership', written by former Indian diplomat-turned-Gandhian Pascal Alan Nazareth, was released at the Peking University's Centre for India Studies in the presence of Indian Ambassador to China S Jaishankar.

Prof Shang Quanyu, a history professor with the South China Normal University, translated the book into Madarin. He described the book as a "trail blazer".

 For the love of Gandhi
Young professor Shang, one of China’s foremost scholars on the Mahatma's writings, unveiled his latest project.

Shang QuanyuShang Quanyu fell in love with Mahatma Gandhi when he was a young undergraduate student in Xian, the central Chinese city known for its terracotta warriors. Shang studied under an old “India hand” at the Northwest University, Peng Shu Zhi, who first introduced him to Gandhi’s writings. Shang was hooked, and would go on to do his PhD on Gandhi. Today he is perhaps one of China’s foremost experts on Gandhi, authoring several books on his philosophy.
